On the company’s third-quarter earnings call, Zuckerberg said that paid messaging is another opportunity we’re starting to capitalize on.
New Delhi: As Meta doubles down on its monetization push across its family of apps, its founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg said JioMart on WhatsApp in India will be a huge opportunity for the paid messaging market.
On the company’s third-quarter earnings call, Zuckerberg said that paid messaging is another opportunity we’re starting to capitalize on.
“We launched JioMart on WhatsApp in India, our first end-to-end shopping experience, showing the potential of chat-based commerce through messaging,” Zuckerberg told analysts.
“So between click messages and paid messages, I believe there’s going to be a huge opportunity,” he added.
In August, Meta and Jio Platforms launched an end-to-end shopping experience where users can shop from e-commerce platform JioMart via WhatsApp chat.
The new experience will enable customers to browse the JioMart catalog, add products to cart and make purchases in WhatsApp.
Zuckerberg said the company is now laying the groundwork to expand its paid messaging ambitions.
The launch of JioMart-WhatsApp is part of a strategic partnership between Meta and Jio Platforms to accelerate India’s digital transformation and provide individuals and businesses of all sizes with the opportunity to connect in new ways and drive economic growth in the country.
“Excited to partner with JioMart in India. This is our first end-to-end shopping experience on WhatsApp – people can now buy groceries directly from JioMart in chat,” Zuckerberg said earlier said in a Facebook post.
“Business messaging is an area with real momentum, and chat-based experiences like this will be the go-to way for people and businesses to communicate for years to come,” he added.
Users can start shopping on JioMart via WhatsApp simply by texting “Hi” to their JioMart number on WhatsApp.
