Hyderabad: The Special Investigation Team (SIT) of the Hyderabad police is conducting an in-depth investigation into the leakage of Telangana Public Service Commission exam papers and has arrested 35 people so far.
The SIT team found that the prime suspects Praveen Kumar, TSPSC secretary assistant section chief and personal assistant, and TSPSC network administrator Rajasekhar Reddy leaked nearly 15 exam papers.
“The police team prepared a list of the top 100 candidates in each of the test papers leaked by the suspects and checked their economic and educational background, call records, etc.,” said a senior official connected to the investigation.
In some cases, the police visited the villages of the candidates and questioned them about their backgrounds. In some other cases, police teams go to their workplaces and ask candidates for their credentials.
“While this is a difficult and complex task, we are pursuing it. Where there is strong evidence against candidates, we arrest them. In some cases, candidates paid 20 lakh to Rs 4 lakh,” the official said.
During the investigation, the police found that after buying the test papers from Rajasekhar Reddy and Praveen Kumar, the intermediary obtained the list of candidates who applied for the TSPSC exam and contacted them.
Begum Bazaar police have filed charges against the nine individuals initially linked to TSPSC and produced them in court. Those initially arrested included Praveen Kumar, Rajasekhar Reddy, Renuka-Hindi pandit and her husband Dakiya Naik, who works in the Rural Development Department.
Rajasekhar obtained the login details of a department officer and used it to log into a classified system computer and copy test papers into pen drives.
