10 teams to compete in ODI World Cup qualifiers in Zimbabwe from June 18

Dubai: Ten teams will compete in the 2023 ODI World Cup qualifiers in Zimbabwe from June 18 to July 9, the ICC announced on Tuesday.

Every game will be high-stakes, with teams vying for two places in the World Cup in India in October-November.

The 10 teams participating in the qualifiers were divided into two groups of five teams each. Hosts Zimbabwe, West Indies, Netherlands, Nepal and the United States are in Group A, while Sri Lanka, Ireland, Scotland, Oman and the United Arab Emirates are in Group B.

The two sides will play against other teams in the same group once, and the top three in each group will enter the Super Six stage. In the Super Six, they will play against teams that did not meet in the group stage.

All points earned in the group stage will be carried over to the Super Six stage, with the exception of points earned by teams that failed to reach the Super Six stage. The finalists will all qualify for the 2023 World Cup.

Bulawayo’s Queen’s Sports Club and Bulawayo Sports Club, Harare Sports Club and Harare’s Takashinga Cricket Club will play 34 matches, with Harare Sports Club playing the final on July 9. Old Harrah Rice Cricket Club will also host a warm-up match.

Hosts Zimbabwe will feature in Harare Sports Club’s opening game against Nepal, who are aiming to qualify for the World Cup for the first time. Two-time champions West Indies will also face neighbors USA on June 18 at Takashinga Cricket Club.

Group B will start in Bulawayo on June 19, with 1996 World Cup winners Sri Lanka taking on the UAE at Queen’s Sports Club, while Ireland face another match at Bulawayo Athletic Club.

The qualifiers are the culmination of four years of grueling competition, bringing together the bottom five teams from the ICC Men’s CWC Premier League, three automatic qualifiers from the ICC Men’s CWC League 2 and two qualifying teams from the ICC Men’s CWC Qualifiers. The team challenged.
