Kurnur: A woman cremated her husband’s body at her home because she feared their two sons would fight over his property if they learned of his death.
The shocking incident happened on Monday in the town of Pattikonda in the Kurnool district of Andhra Pradesh.
The woman told police their two sons were not caring for them and she suspected they would come to fight over the property if they knew of their father’s death.
Lalita told the police that her husband, Harikrishna Prasad (60), was in poor health and passed away early in the morning. Instead of informing any relatives of his death, she decided to cremate him at home.
However, when neighbors saw smoke rising from the house, they called the police. When police arrived, the woman revealed that she performed the last rites for her husband at home.
Harikrishna Prasad runs a pharmacy in the town and has two sons with Lalita. The eldest son works in a private hospital in Kurnool, while the younger son has settled in Canada.
Lalita said their son did not take care of them and they came to the house only to ask for a share of the property. She fears that if she tells them of their father’s death, they will go home and fight over the property.
Police are questioning the woman. They suspected that she was mentally unstable.
The police opened a case and launched further investigations.
