Hyderabad: A total of 34 fully grown trees were transferred from the Erramanzil area where the construction of the new building of the Nizam Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS) will take place. They are located in Erramanzil Colony, where the demolition of several dilapidated buildings for GHMC and the power sector is in progress.
Instead of cutting down the trees, the authorities decided to uproot them and replant them in safer locations so they could grow further. According to NIMS officials, a total of 34 fully grown trees were safely moved to various locations.
State Health Minister T Harish Rao congratulated the NIMS officials. “This is a step towards sustainable development. NIMS officials have shown ecological awareness by deciding to move the trees instead of cutting them down. I congratulate the NIMS officials for protecting the environment,” he said.
Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao plans to hold a 21-day National Day celebration in Earramanzil on June 13 to lay the foundation stone for the new 2,000-bed NIMS block. The state government has allocated more than Rs 15 billion for the construction of new super specialized NIMS blocks.
