Hyderabad: Hyderabad’s road infrastructure is set to get another boost, with works on nine demonstration corridors being fast-tracked at a cost of Rs 279.4 crore. In addition to this, works related to five more model corridors are expected to commence soon.
The Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has proposed 16 works related to the development of the model corridor for 2022-23 at a cost of Rs 527.2 crore covering 19.54 lakh km. A model corridor under development and expected to start in the coming days is part of the 16 works.
“Of the 16 proposed projects, only one has been suspended due to land acquisition issues,” a senior GHMC official said.
Rethibowli Junction – Nanal Nagar Junction, Bandlaguda Main Road – Aramghar, Nanakramguda Junction – Gachibowli via IT Heights Road are some of the roads that will be turned into model corridors.
Unlike regular roads in the city, the model corridor will have a three-lane main road, adjacent to the median, and a 6-meter-long auxiliary road, adjacent to the main road, marked with curbs.
In addition to these roads, the model corridor will have a 1.8-metre cycle lane which will adjoin the service road, with another curb separating cyclists from traffic on the service road.
In addition to catering to vehicle users and cyclists, the model corridors feature walkways and green belts. GHMC officials said the model corridor will have its own stormwater drainage infrastructure, making it unique compared to other roadways in the city.
“During rainy periods, the stormwater drainage infrastructure will ensure that rainwater drains away quickly, thus prolonging the life of the road,” the GHMC official said.
