Hyderabad: June 2 is a big moment for Telangana as the state celebrates its 10th anniversary. More importantly, Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao will achieve a remarkable achievement by becoming the longest-serving Telugu Chief Minister when he will serve nine consecutive years on June 2, 2023.

This record-breaking achievement exceeds the tenure of any previous Telugu chief minister, even in Hyderabad and the formerly united Andhra Pradesh. Also, Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao is on the verge of becoming Chief Minister for a third consecutive term, a first in South India, as numerous surveys predict a resounding victory for the Raj Rakyat (BRS) in the upcoming parliamentary elections. .

Looking back at the historical background, Tanguturi Prakasam served as the Chief Minister of the Madras Presidency for 10 months during the Madras Presidency. After the formation of united Andhra Pradesh, the first chief minister, Neelam Sanjiva Reddy, served for three years.

Former Chief Minister Kasu Brahmananda Reddy served 7.7 years, Chandrababu Naidu served 8.3 years and YS Rajasekhara Reddy served 5.3 years. Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao took office on June 2, 2014 and will complete his nine-year term on June 2, 2023.

Rao is also on the verge of passing another milestone. In South India, Kumaraswami Kamaraj holds the record for the longest serving Chief Minister of Madras, serving 9.5 consecutive years from 13 April 1954 to 2 October 1963. Considering the upcoming state assembly elections in December this year, if there were no early elections and Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao completed his full term, he would achieve 9.7 years of uninterrupted service.

It is worth noting that in the 58-year history of united Andhra Pradesh, no party has been elected to power for three consecutive terms. A new record is likely as Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) is likely to score a hat-trick in the next parliamentary election.

In South India, the Congress Party was elected to power in Karnataka in 1952, 1957, 1962 and 1967. Likewise, in Tamil Nadu, it was victorious in 1952, 1957 and 1962. But the situation was different because there was no strong opposition party at the time. The Congress party has won the confidence of the people to lead India’s independence.

Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao is unmatched as an undisputed and influential leader in the current political landscape. Kasu Brahmananda Reddy and YS Rajasekhara Reddy, who are chief ministers, represent political parties across the country and are appointed by the Congress party high command.

In contrast, in 2001, Chandrashekhar Rao founded Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) with the sole aim of achieving Telangana statehood with the promise of water for irrigation, employment opportunities and adequate funding for development activities. Despite the challenges, Telangana statehood was achieved on June 2, 2014.

Under the leadership of Chief Minister Chandrashekhar Rao, various sectors of Telangana have developed rapidly. The state has transformed from a drought-prone region to the second-largest rice producer in the country. Notably, the Kaleshwaram Water Lifting Irrigation Project, the largest of its kind in the world, has been successfully completed in the state. Telangana is the only state that provides 24-hour free electricity and water supply to farmers. Telangana has become a model for other states, leading in terms of per capita income. Welfare schemes like Rythu Bandhu, Rythu Bima, Dharani portal, KCR Kits, Kalyana Lakshmi and Dalit Bandhu have been appreciated by leaders of all parties.
