Hyderabad: Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao kicked off the Statehood Day celebrations on Friday, hoisting the national flag and paying tribute to the Telangana martyrs.
In a colorful ceremony at the newly formed Secretariat of State, the Chief Minister was saluted by the police contingent.
Some 15,000 people attended the ceremony, marking the start of 21 days of celebrations across the state.
The decennial celebration will highlight Telangana’s progress in various fields over the past nine years.
Telangana became the 29th state on June 2, 2014 after a massive agitation led by K. Chandrashekhar Rao (KCR), who revived the movement in 2001 by floating the Telangana Rashtra Samithi.
Ministers of State and district collectors led the festivities in all 33 districts. They unfurled the national flag and the police inspected the parade. In their speeches, they highlighted the rapid progress the country has made in a short period of time.
Earlier, KCR paid tribute to the Telangana martyrs at the Martyrs Memorial in Gun Park near the state parliament.
Ministers, lawmakers, Chief Secretary Santhi Kumari, Director-General of Police (DGP) Anjani Kumar and other senior officials also paid tribute.
The Inauguration Day celebration was also held in Raj Bhavan where Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan unfurled the national flag.
The Government of India has also organized a Telangana Language Formation Day for the first time. Culture and Tourism Union Minister G. Kishan Reddy unfurls the national flag at the Golconda Fort.
Telangana Inception Day celebrations are also held at the Telangana Legislative Assembly and Council. Speaker of the House of Representatives Bocharam Srinivas Reddy hoists the national flag at the assembly. Parliament Chairman G. Sukhender Reddy unfurls the national flag at the parliament grounds.
The Telangana High Court also celebrated its inauguration day. Chief Justice Ujjal Bhuyan hoists the national flag.
