halways: Hyderabad cricketer Mamatha Madiwala was nervous for hours ahead of India’s A-team selection for the upcoming ACC Emerging Women’s Asia Cup tournament on Friday.
She was both scared and excited. But when her name was included in the 14-man squad, her joy was palpable. “It’s unbelievable. I didn’t expect that I would be in the India ‘A’ team. I’m very happy. It’s one step closer to fulfilling my dream of playing for my country,” she said at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru, where the Indian team is based. Said.
The 19-year-old wicketkeeper-batter, whose father is a dhobi in the apartment, last represented India’s C team in the Senior Women’s Challenger Trophy. However, with Indian stump player Richa Ghosh by her side, she was unable to compete in any competition.
Two goalkeepers – Mamatha and Uma Chetry – have been selected for the 14-man squad from 21 players. “Since we had three goalkeepers in our original line-up, I was a little nervous. Right now, we don’t know who will play between us. Whenever there is an opportunity, I want to make the most of them. I want to win games. My next One goal is to get into the Indian team,” said the youngster, who trains with V Chamundeswaranath at Ramanaidu Cricket Academy.
Mamatha also revealed that being a part of the NCA National Training Camp was a big boost. “The training here is top notch. The intensity and practice on the court will be a huge boost to my game,” she concluded.
Getting into India team is my goal: Trisha
Meanwhile, top batsman G Trisha is eager to take his chances and succeed. The all-rounder was recently part of India’s Under-19 World Cup-winning squad and is determined to win games for his country.

“I’m very happy to be part of the India A team. My goal is to be in the India team this year or next year. I’m working hard to get into the Indian senior team. This is one step closer. Whenever I get the chance to perform for the country, I will give it my all Go all out,” she said in Bangalore.
Having already represented India at the Under-19 World Cup, Trisha says she is no longer nervous about taking part in the big games. “We’ve gained experience playing in an India shirt. Some people might get nervous but we’ve played in the Under-19 World Cup. So we’re not nervous anymore. Whenever I get the chance, I’m focused on winning games for India,” she added.
