Bhopal: A court here on Saturday dispatched three alleged members of Islamic State-linked terrorists who were arrested last week in Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh, and held by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) until June 10. .
Special prosecutor Deepesh Joshi told PTI that Syed Mamoor Ali, Mohammad Adil Khan and Mohammad Shahid had appeared before Special Judge Nitiraj Singh Sisodia for the NIA case and that the Central Investigation Agency had requested that they be remanded for another week for further investigation.
“The court accepted our request and remanded them until June 10,” he said.
The arrests were made during a raid on 13 locations in Jabalpur on May 27 with the Madhya Pradesh Police’s Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS).
Adil Khan has been on the agency’s radar since August 2022, NIA officials said.
According to the federal agency, Khan and his associates were involved in spreading Islamic State propaganda through social media, as well as through the ground-based “Dawah” program to carry out violent terror attacks in India in the context of the terrorist group.
“The module has been holding meetings in local mosques and houses and developing plans and conspiracies to spread terror in the country,” an NIA spokesperson said last week.
The official said the investigation revealed that the three defendants were extremely radicalized and determined to carry out a violent “jihad.”
“They engage in fundraising, disseminate ISIS propaganda material, motivate and recruit youth, and attempt to procure weapons and ammunition to carry out terrorist activities,” the spokesman said.
NIA officials said Ali created a local group called “Fisabilillah” and was also running a WhatsApp group of the same name. He said, “Together with his colleagues, he was trying to procure the pistol, and for this he got in touch with an illegal arms supplier in Jabalpur.” According to the NIA, Khan, a staunch follower and supporter of ISIS, successfully An active Jabalpur like-minded militant group was rallied.
“Some module members are already considering Hijrat (flight) to conflict areas, while others are planning to form a local body to carry out violent jihad in India,” the spokesman said.
Khan also runs multiple YouTube, Instagram and WhatsApp channels to inspire and recruit young people to join ISIS, the official said.
“The investigation further revealed that Shahid also planned to procure weapons including pistols, improvised explosive devices and even grenades to carry out violent attacks in India,” an NIA spokesperson said.
