London: City’s quest to win a treble of major trophies remains underway after they beat Manchester United 2-1 in Saturday’s FA Cup final, with Ilkay Gundogan’s first of two goals in the Score after a record 13 seconds.
With City having secured the Premier League title, only a first Champions League title remains between Pep Guardiola’s side and the immortality of English football.
City captain Gündoğan scored the fastest goal in an FA Cup final – the BBC clocked it at 12.91 seconds – but United midfielder Bruno Fernandes sent Jack Grealish through in the 33rd minute. Score the penalty kick.
If Gundogan’s opener might have been his best goal for City, his 51st-minute winner could have been one of his most scrappy as he received Kevin De Bruyne A free-kick cross, a left-footed volley swings between two United defenders and past goalkeeper David de Gea.
United hope to maintain their proud status as the only team to win the League-FA Cup-European Cup treble in 1999 but now need help from Inter Milan in the Champions League final in Istanbul on June 10 .
It was the 142nd FA Cup final and the first between the two Manchester clubs, with both Prince William and Manchester United great David Beckham in attendance at England’s National Stadium.
