More students opt for engineering courses in Telangana

Meanwhile, 1,56,879 candidates who have passed the TS EAMCET 2023 engineering stream can participate in the entrance counseling which will start on June 26.

Hyderabad: Engineering enrollments hit a four-year high, showing strong interest among students in pursuing technical disciplines and employment opportunities in Telangana, attracting significant IT investment and helping to create jobs.

A quick look at Telangana State Engineering, Agriculture and Medical Common Entrance Examination (TS EAMCET) Convenor Quota Engineering Admissions shows a 35% increase in 2022 intake as compared to 2019.

As many as 62,170 people will enroll in engineering in 2022, compared to 46,134 in 2019. Since 2019, engineering admissions have been steadily increasing. Enrollment saw a record increase of around 10,000 at the height of the Covid-19 pandemic, with 57,545 enrollments in 2021 compared to 47,739 in the previous year. Most students go on to BE/BTech in the thriving Computer Science and Engineering, IT and related programmes.

The rise in engineering enrollment has drawn the attention of higher education sector officials and experts, who attribute it to the huge job opportunities created by a large number of multinational corporations setting up companies, research and data centers in Hyderabad.

According to the details provided by the IT department, the number of jobs created in the IT sector in the state was 5,82,126 in 2019-20, increasing to 6,28,615 in 2020-21 and 7,78,121 in 2021-22.

Employment will increase by a further 42,000 jobs and companies including Pi Health, Sonata Software, State Street, Rite Software, Charles Schwab, Medtronic PLC have announced investments/expansion in the state. In addition to this, the state government has created the best entrepreneurial ecosystems such as T-Hub and WeHub which are turning ideas into start-ups.

Meanwhile, 1,56,879 candidates who passed the TS EAMCET 2023 engineering stream can attend the admission counseling which will start on June 26. The registration period for the first phase of counseling is from June 26 to July 5, and the certificate verification period is from June 28 to July 6.
