Amaravati: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy on Sunday directed officials to pay ex gratia payments to the families of passengers who died or were injured in a train accident in Odisha state.
At the Relief and Rescue Operations Review Conference held here, the Chief Minister told them to pay ex ex gratia payments of Rs 10 lakh each to the families of the dead, Rs 5 lakh each to the seriously injured and Rs 100,000 each to the dead. Suffered minor injuries.
This is in addition to the financial aid provided by the center.
He asked for details of Andhra Pradesh passengers who died or were injured in the accident.
Officials told him that a passenger from Srikakulam district, a resident of Balasore, Odisha, died in the accident and there were no other reports of passenger casualties in the state.
The Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh was also informed of the actions taken by the committee of IAS officials who visited the accident site.
The committee works under the supervision of Minister G. Amarnath.
Another minister, B. Satyanarayana, who is coordinating with officials in Visakhapatnam, told the media that they had received information that there were 695 passengers from Andhra Pradesh on two trains.
484 took the Coromandel Express and the remaining 211 took the Yesvantpur Express.
The minister said 553 passengers were safe, while 92 of them told officials they were not on board when the accident occurred.
The minister said 28 passengers did not answer their calls and officers were sent to their homes. Another 22 passengers suffered minor injuries and are being treated in hospital.
The minister said the details of those who traveled on Liberty coaches were not yet known. Minister Amarnath and officials are visiting different hospitals to gather information.
“According to the information we have received, there are 180 more bodies that have not yet been identified,” Satyanarayana said.
