Zhan Gang: Telangana has become the nation’s leading state in electricity consumption, Panchayat Raj and Rural Development Minister Errabelli Dayakar Rao said on Monday. He praised Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao for revamping the state’s electricity infrastructure and bringing it out of darkness. He said since its inception, Telangana has invested heavily and moved from a power deficit of 2,700 megawatts to a power surplus in just nine years.
Speaking at the inauguration of the 132/33 KV substation in Palakurthi in the region on Monday as part of Telangana’s ten-year celebration, Minister Rao said, “Telangana is the only one in the country that continuously provides uninterrupted and high-quality 24-hour electricity without any curtailment. or vacation.”
He highlighted the state’s remarkable achievement of consuming 1,196 kWh per capita, making it a national leader. Government subsidies totaling over Rs 50,000 crore have benefited 2.71 million electricity connections in the state. Farmers received a subsidy of Rs 1.2 lakh per motor.
The minister also praised the Palakurti constituency, revealing that subsidies of Rs 880.04 crore had been disbursed to 87,980 farmers. In addition, 250 free electricity was provided to 501 Rajaka services at a total government expenditure of Rs 16.66 lakh.
“For 246 Nayi Brahmin services, we have awarded 250 units of free electricity along with a subsidy of Rs. 36.62 lakh. A total of 887 services have received a subsidy of Rs. 3.73 lakh under the 101-unit free electricity scheme for SC/ST electricity consumers,” He said. In addition to the existing 27 substations, 14 new substations worth Rs 250 crore have been installed in the Palakurthi constituency.
He highlighted the growth in infrastructure, saying that before the state was formed, Palakurti constituency had 5,830 transformers. “Since then, we have installed 2,500 new transformers at a cost of Rs 370 crore,” he said, urging the people and party operatives to dismiss baseless allegations against the power sector. District Governor Ch Shivalingaiah, NPDCL officials, local public representatives and others participated in the celebration.
