Navi Mumbai: Shockingly, a Mumbai businessman who was stabbed in the neck by his brother with a rusty knife sent his motorbike to a hospital 1 km away with a trail of blood, and survived after receiving prompt treatment Difficult to say the police here.
The incident happened on the morning of June 3 when Tejas Jaydev Patil, 30, was stabbed in the neck by his brother Monish, 28, while they were sleeping at their home in the suburb of Sanpada.
Showing courage and composure, Tejas, with the knife still stuck in his neck and bleeding profusely, called his father-in-law in Ulwe, where his wife went for a medical check, hopped on his motorbike and headed straight to the MPCT hospital emergency room.
Paramedics immediately took him to the Intensive Care Unit where Dr Prince Surana and his team of specialists including Dr Vinod Pachade, Dr Aditya Patil and Dr Maunit Bhuta saw an 8 x 1.5 cm deep gash on Patil’s body and other wounds on the head, face , the knife had pierced 60% of the place, and the delicate place on the right side of the neck was bleeding continuously.
“We had to perform the surgery very carefully to remove the knife while making sure that no surrounding areas or nerves or arteries were damaged as it could be permanently disabling or life threatening. The knife was completely stuck and it took a lot of force to get it out It was a miracle that there was no damage to the carotid artery or the nerves in the area, otherwise he would have succumbed immediately,” hospital superintendent Dr Surana told IANS.
Patil underwent a successful four-hour surgery. Fortunately, the knife did not penetrate any of the major vessels supplying blood to the brain or any vital nerves that could cause permanent damage, Dr Surana added.
He added that as Patil is recovering well, he is likely to be discharged on Wednesday or Thursday, although the young patient has become a hero on social media networks for his courage and level-headed rush to the hospital alone.
In a subsequent police statement, Patil said his brother, who was a partner in his water tanker business but also an alcoholic, was not attentive to his duties.
He remains unclear, though, as to why Mohnish chose to make the fatal attempt on him.
At the same time, the police have launched a hunt for Monish, who absconded after committing the crime.
