Hyderabad: Malkajgiri police on Saturday arrested four members of a car thief gang and recovered 21 auto-rickshaws from them.
Those arrested were identified as Maganuri Srinivas (32), Munawar Baig (25), Anwar Baig (20) and Jawed (32) – all from Karnataka.
DCP (Malkajgiri), Rakshita Murthy said Srinivas regularly visited the city and stole auto-rickshaws after identifying them stored in remote locations. He later transferred the vehicle to Karnataka and sold it to Munawar, Anwar and Jawed, who either scrapped it or tampered with the chassis and registration numbers to sell or lease it.
The crimes took place in Malkajgiri, Neredmet, Chandanagar, Miyapur and RC Puram. The DCP added that efforts were underway to capture more people associated with the gang.
