Hyderabad: Nawazuddin Siddiqui shocked audiences with his transgender debut in his highly anticipated film ‘Haddi.’ Heralded as a landmark film representing the queer community in Bollywood, the film is produced by debut producing duo Sanjay Saha and Raadhika Nanda.
Ever since Nawazuddin Siddiqui’s sari-clad Nawazuddin Siddiqui’s first hit, the movie has sparked a lot of curiosity and anticipation among moviegoers, who were amazed to see the multi-talented actor take on such a challenging and daring role.
Producer Raadhika Nanda praised his honesty, discipline and dedication to play the leading role in “Hardy” and shed light on his entire process of developing his image in the film.
“It was very difficult,” Raadhika details, “because he (Nawazuddin) was wearing a saree for the first time. It used to take almost 30 minutes to put on a saree and about 3 hours a day to shape his entire look , including makeup, hairdos, etc. On top of that, he used to shoot for hours wearing the same saree look. We also used prosthetics during the process, but the idea was to make the look as natural as possible. “
“We used about 80 sarees throughout the shoot,” Raadhika added, “Nawazuddin was very overwhelmed the first time he looked at himself in the mirror because he had never seen himself like this before, which Helps him get a closer feel for his character. He understands how difficult it is to wake up every day as a woman, dress like that, and do chores. After going through several makeup artists, it took us almost 6 months to get the looks done,” reveals Nanda.
Starring Nawazuddin Siddiqui and produced by Anandita Studios’ Sanjay Saha and Raadhika Nanda, ‘Haddi’ will be released in late June.
