Washington: Actor and comedian Mike Batayeh, best known for his role as the manager of Gus’ famous laundromat on “Breaking Bad,” has died. He is 52 years old.
Batayeh died of a heart attack on June 1 while sleeping at his Michigan home, Variety reported, according to his relatives.
His family said: “It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that my sisters and I announce the passing of our dear brother. He will be greatly missed by those who loved him and the laughter he brought to so many. and great capacity for joy.” A memorial service will be held on June 16 at 2 p.m. at the Vermeulen-Sajewski Funeral Home in Plymouth, Michigan, Variety reported.
Batayeh played Dennis Markowski, manager of the Lavanderia Brillante Laundromat, which also serves as Walter White and Jesse Pinkman’s meth lab, in three episodes of AMC’s “Breaking Bad.”
During his acting career, Bataille appeared on shows such as “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia,” “Sleep Cell,” “The Bernie Mac Show,” “Boy Meets World” and “Everybody Loves Raymond” . He co-starred in Paul Weitz’s “American Dream”, “Don’t Mess with Zohan”, “Gas”, and played Mike in the 2012 film “Detroit Unleaded”. The actor has performed and starred in notable comedy clubs including Gotham, New York, and Los Angeles’ Laugh Factory, Comedy Store, Improv, and Icehouse.
He was one of the first American comedians to perform for Middle Eastern audiences. Bataille performed in Dubai, where he filmed a Showtime Arabian special, as well as Egypt, Lebanon, Nazareth and Jordan. The Jordanian royal family invited Bataille to appear at the Amman International Comedy Festival for two consecutive years.
