Eindhoven: India returned to winning ways with a 2-1 win over Argentina in the FIH Pro League Hockey Tournament on Sunday, wrapping up the 2022-23 season on a positive note.
A day after losing 3-2 to hosts Netherlands, India came back to win with goals from Akashdeep Singh (1st minute) and Sukhjeet Singh (13th minute).
India scored twice in the first quarter, while Argentina closed the gap in the 57th minute with Lucas Toscany’s goal.
India scored the first goal with the unmarked Akashdeep within two minutes of the game, waiting for the ball inside the D and delivering an excellent pass from the right wing.
Goals so early in the game took the Argentines by surprise, but they tried to fight back. However, they soon found themselves trailing 2-0 as the Indians doubled their lead when Sukhjeet dived in following a superb display from Vivek Sagar Prasad.
Without scoring a goal in the second quarter, India easily led by two goals and entered the half-time break.
The third quarter also saw no goals, and after a chaotic start to the fourth and final period, when it looked like India would win 2-0, Argentina netted Toscani after a pass from Nicolas.
However, Argentina failed to equalize with two-and-a-half minutes remaining as India closed out the final match of the 2022/23 Pro League season with a win.
