New Delhi: According to the BCCI match schedule, India will start their ODI World Cup match against Australia in Chennai on October 8, while Ahmedabad will host their much-anticipated match against archrivals Pakistan a week later.
“The BCCI shared the draft timetable with the ICC, which then sent it to participating countries for feedback and the final timetable will be announced early next week,” ESPNCricinfo reported on Monday.
According to sources, the two semi-finals will be played in Mumbai and Chennai respectively. According to the original draft, the tournament would start on October 5, with defending champions England taking on last runners-up New Zealand in Ahmedabad, who will also host the final on November 19.
Eleven venues namely Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Trivandrum, Guwahati, Pune, Lucknow and Dharamsala have been shortlisted. Hosts India, who last won an ODI World Cup at home in 2011, will play their league stage games in nine cities including Kolkata, Mumbai, New Delhi and Bengaluru.
They will play Pakistan on October 15. Meanwhile, Pakistan will play the league in five cities. “Pakistan will meet the two qualifying teams in Hyderabad on October 6 and 12, before playing in Bengaluru (October 20), Afghanistan (October 23) and South Africa (October 27). Day) in Chennai, Bangladesh in Kolkata (October 31), New Zealand in Bengaluru (November 5, day match) and England in Kolkata (November 12),” the report read.
Australia’s clash with trans-Tasman rivals New Zealand in Dharamshala on October 29 and England in Ahmedabad on November 4 are other big games. A total of 10 teams will participate in the competition. Among them, eight teams have been identified, while the other two teams will qualify to participate in the main match through the qualifiers.
With more than four months until the big event kicks off, there has been an unprecedented delay in releasing the schedule. The schedule for the last two championships — 2015 and 2019 — was finalized more than a year in advance.
