Social media platforms were flooded with shocking reports on Monday about the alleged leak of sensitive user data on the CoWIN portal. CoWIN is a healthcare website developed by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare to aid and digitize the Covid vaccination process.
Several news reports suggest that the personal information of Indian citizens registered on the site is being made public on Telegram. Some also shared screenshots of private messages of prominent figures on Twitter to support the claim.
These personal details include gender, year of birth, name of vaccination centre, c voter ID and PAN card number.
Union Minister Rajeev Chandrasekhar said the CoWin app “does not appear to have been directly compromised”. He also said data was being accessed by bots in the threat actor’s database, which appeared to be populated with previously stolen data. While the government has dismissed the data theft as “baseless,” many have accused authorities of failing to safeguard sensitive user information.
Meta releases AI music generator
Meta released an AI music generator called MusicGen, which converts text descriptions and melodies into audio. The company also releases code and models for open research, reproducibility, and music communities.
MusicGen has undergone 20,000 hours of musical training, including 10,000 high-quality licensed music tracks and 3,90,000 purely instrumental tracks from ShutterStock and Pond5 stock media libraries. However, Meta isn’t the first company to offer an AI music generation tool. In May, Google released MusicLM — an experimental AI tool that can generate high-fidelity music of any genre given a textual description.
Reddit faces disruption amid protests
Social discussion platform Reddit faced a brief outage on Monday as subreddits protested changes to the company’s new application programming interface (API) pricing. The issue that was causing issues when loading content was fixed the next day.
More than 6,000 subreddits have shut down following the new API pricing, including many of the platform’s most subscribed communities. Other social media platforms were also filled with discussions about Reddit’s pricing issues.
Last week, Reddit CEO Steve Hoffman confirmed that the company does not plan to revert its upcoming API pricing changes. Now react to comments in Microsoft Word
