Telangana police track over 2,000 stolen or lost mobile phones

Hyderabad: Since April 19 this year, the Telangana Police have successfully traced and handed over 2,028 stolen or lost mobile phones to their rightful owners using the Central Equipment Identification Register (CEIR) portal.

The Telangana Police, in partnership with the Department of Telecommunications, has launched CEIR to register complaints of lost or stolen mobile phones. Once a complaint is registered, officials will block the phone, making it inaccessible to those who own the gadget.

A total of 31,292 mobile phones were blocked between April 20 and June 13, out of which 5,442 were traced using CEIR, said Mahesh Muralidhar Bhagwat of DGP Criminal Investigation Department, CEIR Portal Designated Node Officer in Telangana.

After checking the documents, a total of 2028 mobile phones were unsealed and handed over to the owners.

Cyberabad police traced 272 mobile phones, followed by Warangal Commissionerates 163 and Kamareddy district 119 in the state.
