New Delhi: Delhi Police on Thursday filed charges against former WFI chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh in the FIR over complaints by protesting wrestlers.
Special Prosecutor Atul Srivastava said the charge sheet was filed under Sections 354, 354D, 345A and 506(1) of the IPC.
The indictment was filed against the wrestler’s allegations of sexual harassment against BJP MP Brij Bhushan Singh.
Rouse Avenue Court’s other Chief Metropolitan Sheriff, Deepak Kumar, put the matter on hold until June 22 to consider hearing the charge sheet.
Two FIR registrations have been made against Brij Bhushan Singh based on the wrestler’s complaint.
While one was registered in Patiala House Court under the POCSO Act based on a complaint from an “underage wrestler,” the second was filed in the MP/MLA Court on Rouse Avenue based on complaints from other wrestlers.
The Delhi Police have lodged their final reports in both FIRs of their respective courts.
At Patiala House Court, Delhi Police lodged a cancellation report citing lack of evidence on the POCSO incident.
This comes after the minor who accused the WFI chief of sexual harassment changed her statement. Delhi Police said there was no evidence of cooperation in the case.
Delhi Police officials said that in the POCSO incident, they have lodged a police report under Section 173 Cr PC for the dismissal of the case based on the statements of the complainant (the victim’s father and the victim himself).
The Delhi Police said they charged Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh with offenses under IPC Sections 354 (Assault or inflicting criminal force on a woman with intent to insult her modesty), 354A (Making remarks of a sexual nature), 354D (Stalking), and Against the accused former WFI Assistant Secretary Vinod Tomar under Section 109/354/354A/506 IPC.
Earlier this month, Union Sports Minister Anurag Thakur told them in talks with protesting wrestlers that charge sheets in the case would be filed by June 15.
Thakur has said that the wrestling federation’s internal complaints committee will be formed and will be headed by a woman.
Protesting wrestlers have said they will discuss the outcome of the talks with supporters.
