San Francisco: Post — a publisher-focused alternative to Twitter — has launched its iOS app, while Spill, a new social platform created by a team of ex-Twitter employees, has launched an invitation-only app on the App Store. Beta.
Days after Elon Musk completed Twitter’s acquisition, Post launched a beta version aimed at reshaping the way people get news on social media, TechCrunch reported.
When using the app, users can switch between three streams – Follow, Explore and News.
A feed of new articles from Post’s publishing partners appears on the News tab.
Headlines and the beginning of the article are free to view, but users must use “credits” for microtransactions to read the rest of the article in the Post app.
Publishers currently get 100% of the revenue from these micropayments, but that could change as long as the Post needs to make its own profits.
“The average CPM for paid content was $30 for paid content and $1.3 for free content,” the company said in a release.
Meanwhile, new social platform Spill launched an invite-only beta on the App Store.
Spill is a multimedia, visually-focused microblogging service with a Tumblr-like interface.
When users open the app, they’ll see a feed that shows the latest posts from people they follow, as well as those provided by the algorithm.
