Kathmandu: On Saturday morning, Nepal’s President Ram Chandra Poudel was hospitalized with chest pains. This is his second hospitalization in a week.
According to the president’s private secretary, the president has been admitted to the Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital (TUTH) and is under medical observation.
“He was admitted to the Manmohan Cardiothoracic Vascular and Transplant Center at the Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital earlier this morning after complaining of chest pains. His health is normal,” Chiranjibi Adhikari, the president’s private secretary, confirmed to ANI by phone.
The 78-year-old head of state was hospitalized at the Shahid Gangalal National Heart Center in Kathmandu on Tuesday (June 13) after suffering a “heart attack”. He underwent angioplasty. After examination, the doctor concluded that the president suffered from “myocardial infarction”, commonly known as “heart attack”.
On Saturday morning, at 2 a.m. local time, the president was taken to TUTH, less than a kilometer from the presidential residence.
President Paudel was then transferred to the Manmohan Cardiothoracic Vascular and Transplant Center at 5 a.m. local time. “At the moment he is being held in the CCU lodge,” a source in the president’s office confirmed to ANI.
The ailing president had previously traveled to New Delhi on April 19 on a Shree Airlines flight to receive treatment at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS). He returned on April 30.
