Gangtok: Torrential rains triggered multiple landslides in West Sikkim, damaging nearly 100 homes and washing away bridges, officials said on Sunday.
They said the downpour caused flash flooding in the upper reaches of College Khola Valley, with Simphok most affected, where a major bridge was washed away.
The Dentam Sub Division under the Gyalshing district was also bearing the brunt of damage to homes and roads, officials said.
Farmland and livestock were also affected.
A suspension bridge over College Khola in Lower Sapung was also washed away by the mudslide, they said.
Authorities provided immediate relief to those affected, the officials said, adding that repairs to roads and bridges had begun.
