Hyderabad: The district office set up by the Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) to improve the efficiency of the citizens’ grievance redress system has quickly gained popularity among the public. A large number of people flocked to the district government, hoping that their demands would be respected and dealt with in a timely manner.
Most visitors to the district government praise the integration model and approach that clearly demonstrates a citizen’s charter, which sets out a clear timetable for addressing various issues. Some also appreciated the citizen-friendly attitude of these office workers.
“In addition to quickly addressing my complaint, Kukatpally’s ward office staff contacted me on the phone and took feedback,” said Technician Sai Teja.
Visitors were also impressed by the fusion concept where officials from different municipal departments could work under one roof. To further expand its services, GHMC also plans to deploy police personnel in district offices. This approach makes the district government a one-stop destination for resolving various grievances regardless of the department concerned.
“These district offices will be very useful during periods of heavy rain, as all rain-related complaints, including power outages, waterlogging, sewage, etc., will be resolved in one complaint and people will no longer need to contact the various departments,” said Dr. Sankeert Gangakhedkar, the city’s doctor.
The GHMC has also decided that if someone goes to the wrong district office, the onus is on the GHMC and not the complainant to escalate the complaint to the appropriate staff.
“Complaints related to drinking water sanitation and sewage overflows have been dealt with as quickly as possible within the stipulated time frame. There was also a complaint about snakes found in the park and the issue has been reported to the Forestry Department,” Jubilee Hills Administrative Officer (WAO ) Sanjay Singh said.
WAO of Kanchanbagh, Zaheeruddin Siddiqui and WAO of Banjara Hills, Sai Srinivas, said they were doing their best to resolve the complaint by the said deadline. “We were able to resolve complaints related to lighting, sanitation and road maintenance on the same day,” Sai Srinivas said.
