Meanwhile, Prime Minister Modi will celebrate International Yoga Day on June 21 at UN Headquarters with UN leadership and members of the international community.
“At about 5:30pm IST, I will be attending a yoga class at UN Headquarters. It is historic that more than 180 countries have come together at India’s call. When the UN General Assembly proposed Yoga Day in 2014, it was groundbreaking. Support from a record number of countries,” Prime Minister Narendra Modi said in a video message on the occasion of International Yoga Day.
Every year on June 21st, International Yoga Day is celebrated around the world. It serves as a platform to raise awareness of yoga’s many benefits and promote its holistic approach to physical, mental and spiritual wellbeing.
The concept of International Yoga Day was coined by Prime Minister Narendra Modi when he addressed the United Nations General Assembly in 2014.
Since then, yoga has gained worldwide popularity for its ability to enhance flexibility, strength, balance, and overall health.
The theme of this year’s Yoga Day is “Yoga For Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam”, or yoga for the benefit of all in the form of “One World One Family”.
It emphasizes the yogic spirit that unites and moves all. As usual, this time around, there will also be yoga-related events across the country.
It serves as a platform to raise awareness of yoga’s many benefits and promote its holistic approach to physical, mental and spiritual wellbeing.
Arrangements have also been made in different parts of the country to celebrate the occasion and spread awareness of the benefits of ancient Indian customs.
This is the ninth year since the United Nations adopted a resolution in 2014 to designate June 21 as International Yoga Day.
