Hyderabad: The Telangana BJP division, already embroiled in internal strife, is getting into more trouble over speculation that some BJP leaders are considering joining Congress soon.
Following reports that several leaders who joined the BJP from Congress and other rival parties are preparing to jump ship soon to return to the grand old party, the BJP’s central leadership has summoned the party’s national chairman, Bandi Sanjay, to the Delhi to discuss. It has been reported that several leaders such as former Congressman Komati Reddy Rajgopal Reddy, former Congressman Kunda Vishweshwar Reddy have made up their minds to join Congress.
The party high command was also unhappy with Sanjay’s failure to persuade Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy and Jupally Krishna Rao, who were suspended by the BRS, to join the BJP, sources said. The high command was reportedly furious with the country’s leadership over reports that the two would join Congress in the presence of Rahul Gandhi. The two are scheduled to meet Gandhi on June 25 and join the party at a public meeting in Khammam on July 2, the sources said.
The BJP national leadership tried very hard to convince the duo to join the party but failed to get the job done. BJP Huzurabad MLA and party accession committee chairmen Eatala Rajender and Komatireddy Rajgopal Reddy met the two leaders and tried to persuade them to join the saffron brigade, but they did not show much interest, according to poll results in Karnataka After coming out, they made up their minds to join Congress.
According to party sources, Sanjay briefed the BJP high command on the current state of the party in the state and measures to strengthen the party in the coming days to face the upcoming elections. He also reportedly urged the party leadership to hold a public meeting of senior leaders, including the state’s union home minister, Amit Shah, to build confidence among cadres.
Meanwhile, on Wednesday, it was reported that TPCC chairman A Revanth Reddy, along with Bhongir MP Komatireddy Venkat Reddy and several senior party leaders met Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy and Jupally Krishna Rao and invited them to Congress. Both leaders agreed in principle to join the party, the sources said.
