Hyderabad: To alert citizens of the impending rains in the area, Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) authorities have started sending out mass text messages.
Some people were alerted by the GHMC Disaster Response Unit on Thursday as the city experienced moderate rainfall.
“Thanks to GHMC’s @Director_EVDM team for the timely rain warning message. Hats off to the team!” Twitter user Karthikeyan Rayana wrote, sharing an image of a message alerting residents of Ranga Reddy to light rain and surface winds. The message also informed that this situation will last for three hours.
The GHMC Director of Law Enforcement, Vigilance and Disaster Management confirmed the text message alert via his official Twitter account.
“Beginning yesterday, we have adopted a common alert protocol to send weather alert text messages to citizens in affected areas based on IMD and other website information,” they wrote.
Netizens applauded GHMC’s initiative and suggested sending these alerts via WhatsApp and Telegram as well.
