Famous singer and Telangana activist Saichand no longer

Singer Saichand, a renowned artist whose singing during the Telangana independence riots mesmerized many, died of a heart attack in the early hours of Thursday.

Hyderabad: Saichand, famous singer and chairman of Warehousing Corporation in Telangana, has passed away. He is 40 years old and is survived by a wife, son and daughter.

Saichand was rushed to hospital after suffering a heart attack at his farmhouse in Karokonda village, Nagarkurnool district, in the early hours of Thursday morning. But he breathed his last on the way.

The famous folk singer is known for his countless songs which speak of the need for a separate state of Telangana amid the agitation for a separate state. His greatest contribution to the independent statehood movement was the song performed countless times in the statewide “Telangana Dhoom Dhaam” program during the agitation period.

His voice captivated many and set the tone for strengthening Telangana’s desire for independence.

He was appointed chairman of Telangana State Warehousing Corporation in December 2021 and will continue in that role.

BRS Chairman and Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao led numerous BRS leaders in expressing their condolences. In a statement, the Chief Minister expressed shock at the passing of Syechand. He said Telangana had lost a staunch supporter with his untimely death. In paying warm tribute to Saichand, Rao said the country will always remember his songs. He expressed his sincere condolences to the families of the victims.

BRS Working Chairman KT Rama Rao, Agriculture Minister S Niranjan Reddy, Finance Minister T Harish Rao, Speaker Pocharam Srinivas Reddy, Council Chairman G Sukhendar Reddy, Rajyakar members J Santosh Kumar, D Damodar Rao, National Planning Commission Vice Chairman B Vinod Kumar And many other ministers also offered their condolences to the late leader. Rama Rao described him as an idol of Telangana and his name will forever be recorded in the annals of Telangana.
