New Delhi: Meta founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg on Friday announced a secure way to transfer WhatsApp chat history between devices with the same operating system.
For the first time, users can keep their full chat and media history without leaving the app. Zuckerberg said it is safer than using unofficial third-party apps that lack clear privacy practices, more private than cloud services, transfers are authenticated by QR codes, data is only shared between two devices, and Fully encrypted during transmission.
It’s faster than backing up and restoring your chat history, and you can now also transfer large media files and attachments that are usually too large to keep. According to the company, if you’re ready to transfer your chats, make sure you have both devices with you, connected to Wi-Fi, and have location enabled.
On your old phone, go to Settings, then Chats and Chat Transfer, then use your new phone to scan the QR code displayed on the screen to complete the process. Zuckerberg said that if you want to transfer your WhatsApp chats to your new phone, you can now do so more privately without letting the chats leave your device.
