LONDON, July 2 (Xinhua) — According to media reports, the boyfriend of a 19-year-old Indian student admitted to killing her in a London University dormitory last year, but denied any murderous intent.

The defense was raised on the grounds of mitigation of liability. Emergency services were alerted in the early hours of the morning after neighbors heard screams from Tanwani’s room last March. Police saw blood on the floor of Tanwani’s room around the bed, as well as a blanket and duvet. She was pronounced dead at the scene at 6 a.m. and an autopsy revealed the cause of death was trauma to the neck with a sharp object.
The attacker tried to enter another room before leaving the building on Sebastian Street in Clerkenwell, The Standard reported. Police found Maloof asleep under a tarp in a garden shed and allegedly headbutted an officer as he tried to evade arrest.
After his guilty plea hearing, the court remanded him in custody and deferred sentencing at the Old Bailey in September.
In a statement issued at the time of her death, Sabita Thanwani’s family described her as “our angel” and said she had a “bright smile and an incredible heart” .
