Hyderabad: Twitter owner Elon Musk announced Saturday that Twitter will temporarily limit the number of tweets users can read each day in a bid to crack down on computer programs that use posts to extract useful data from the platform.
Musk revealed in a tweet that paying and non-paying users will have separate limits — verified accounts can only read 10,000 posts per day, and unverified accounts can only read 1,000 tweets per day. Newly created unverified accounts will be limited to 500 Tweets per day.
The tighter restrictions were initially announced by Twitter’s chief technology officer, but he changed them within hours. However, he did not mention when the restrictions would end.
Viewing restrictions on tweets would be temporarily imposed to address “extreme levels of data scraping” and “system manipulation,” he said.

Twitter is allegedly refusing to pay its Google Cloud bill, raising questions about how trust and security teams have been compromised, according to a report from Platform. On Saturday, thousands of users reported that they were unable to access the social media site, reporting that they had received an error message saying “tweets could not be retrieved.”
As soon as the latest update was announced, #RIPTwitter became a trending topic on the microblogging site, with users criticizing the decision. Many funny emoticons also swept the Internet.

A little disappointed with the new twitter.
First, the algorithm made a toss.
Then I can no longer see the tweets I follow.
And then there’s the unnecessary “for you” recommendation…There is hardly any tweet engagement unless paying users.

Meanwhile, Twitter co-founder and former CEO Jack Dorsey reacted to the new update. “Running Twitter is difficult, but the team is doing the best they can with huge constraints,” the entrepreneur said. Referring to the uproar and criticism Elon Musk has faced, Jack said it’s hard to criticize a decision from a distance. Easy, but the end goal is to see Twitter thrive.
Running Twitter is hard. I don’t want that pressure on anyone. I believe the team will do their best with huge constraints. It’s easy to criticize these decisions from a distance…and I’m guilty of that…but I know our goal is to see Twitter thrive. it will.
