Kyrgios loses Wimbledon final to Novak Djokovic in 2022 before reaching quarterfinals at US Open
UPDATE – Monday, July 3 at 10:00 AM
London: Nick Kyrgios, who reached the men’s singles final at Wimbledon last year, withdrew from this year’s grass-court Grand Slam with a wrist injury.
The 28-year-old Australian lost the 2022 Wimbledon final to Novak Djokovic and then reached the quarter-finals at the US Open, according to Xinhua.
He was out of action for nearly six months after undergoing knee surgery in January and lost to China’s Wu Yibing in his first match back at the Stuttgart Open last month.
“I’m really sad that I have to quit Wimbledon this year,” Kyrgios wrote on social media. “I did my best to be ready after surgery and to be able to step on the Wimbledon court again. During my comeback, I felt some pain in my wrist during the Mallorca Open (preparation).”
“As a precaution, I had a scan of it and it showed that I had torn ligaments in my wrist. I tried everything to compete, but I’m disappointed to say that I didn’t have enough time to deal with it before Wimbledon,” said Grae. Yargos said he was scheduled to face Belgian David Goffin in the first round.
“I will be back, as always, and I thank all the fans for their support,” he said.
This year’s Wimbledon tournament kicks off on Monday, with 23-time Grand Slam champion Novak Djokovic defending his title against Argentina’s Pedro Cacchin in the first round.
