He doesn’t love her: To enhance green coverage and promote environmental sustainability, the district government is preparing for the ninth phase of ‘Haritha Haram’, a highly successful tree planting programme.
The district government’s ambitious goal of planting 2.245 million tree saplings and its determination to capitalize on the abundant monsoon rains the district receives during the monsoon season have made the launch the most impactful yet.
To ensure the diversity of plant species, nurseries have been established in 208 Gram Panchayats across the district. Officials immediately began preparations, including digging holes and preparing the land for the upcoming planting event.
This time, the government has an additional plan – to establish a “Sampada” (wealth) forest, an income-generating forest for the benefit of the Gram Panchayat.
Authorities said this year’s flora exceeded those previously released. Besides the usual varieties, the government will distribute fruit trees, oil palms, timber and shade plants. A total of 243 nurseries have been set up across the district, ensuring that saplings are available to anyone willing to contribute to the greening of the area.
The district government is confident of meeting the ambitious target of planting 2.245 million saplings for the ninth Haritha Haram. They are unwavering in their commitment to transforming the region into a greener, more sustainable environment.
“We plan to plant 2,245,000 saplings in the area. We are ready to distribute the saplings to anyone who seeks them. This time, our focus is mainly on fruit trees, timber and shade plants. Also, this year we will be offering saplings engaged in fire dragons through MGNREGA. Assistance to individuals in the cultivation of fruit tree seedlings,” explained A Srinivas Kumar, DRDO Program Director.
