Hyderabad: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BRS) has launched a scathing attack on the Congress party, accusing it of misleading the people of Telangana with unworkable promises. BRS leaders have questioned whether these promises are feasible and why the Congress party has not implemented them in Karnataka, where it recently won parliamentary elections.
Ministers Vemula Prashanth Reddy and Puvvada Ajay Kumar mocked senior Congress leader Rahu in address to media conference Exorbitant demands made by Rahul Gandhi. They point out that the Congress leader has not held any responsible position within the party to make such a promise, and that his promise has not been followed up in any of the Congress-ruled states across the country.
Prashanth Reddy said that until recently, whenever Rahul Gandhi was ridiculed by BJP leaders as “pappu”, he felt sympathy for him. “But after watching his Khammam speech, I think this kind of rhetoric against him is justified. He is just reading the script prepared by the local Congress leaders without checking the facts,” he said.
BRS leaders expressed skepticism, emphasizing the unwillingness of the people of Telangana to believe everything the Congress leaders said, especially the promises made by Rahul Gandhi. They point out that the Congress-ruled states only provide social security pensions of up to Rs 1,000 per month and question why these states do not raise it to Rs 4,000. The BRS challenged Congress to implement such programs first in states ruled by Congress if they were to earn the people’s trust.
Ministers mocked Rahul Gandhi’s speech for lack of expertise. He pointed out that the Congress leader’s allegations of Rs 1 billion corruption in the Kaleshwaram project, which has so far generated only Rs 80,000 crore in disbursements, are flawed.
BRS leaders dismissed the Congress party’s claim that the BRS is authoritarian in the state, insisting that Chandrasekhar Rao’s government was re-elected after winning 88 parliamentary seats in 2018. “This is a clear sign of democracy and not dictatorship. Instead, the Nehru-Gandhi family is responsible for perpetuating the autocratic legacy,” Prashanth Reddy added.
Minister Puvvada Ajay Kumar has held the Congress leadership responsible for countless deaths in Telangana’s statehood struggle. He argues that these sacrifices could have been avoided had Congress followed through on its promise of statehood after the 2004 election.
Ajay Kumar accused Congress of repeated betrayal of Telangana, expressed confidence that BRS will win nine districts in Esthwile Khammam district in upcoming assembly elections seats. He called the BRS leaders who recently joined Congress “opportunists”. He declared BRS would score a hat-trick in Telangana for a third consecutive term.
The meeting was attended by Rajya Sabha member Vaddiraju Ravichandra, MPs DS Redya Naik, MS Prabhakar Rao, Sandra Venkata Veeraiah and J Surender.
