Hyderabad: Customs officers at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport seized gold weighing 2.279 kilograms and worth Rs. Rs 13.7 crore on Wednesday.
Two travelers who arrived from Kuwait and Sharjah smuggled gold hidden in their underwear, according to customs officials. A total of 1083 grams of gold were seized.
In another case, 1,196 grams of gold were found behind the passenger seats of an airplane, suggesting either some passengers left the gold for fear of being caught, or some airport or airline staff came to collect it The shipment.
In another case, officials seized 1,01,000 foreign cigarettes smuggled into the country. Three passengers who arrived via Bangkok from Cambodia were allegedly trying to smuggle cigarettes into the country.
Three people were detained. Officials said further investigations are ongoing.
