Travis Hyde and Mitch Marsh beat a revived England side to extend Australia’s fragile lead to 142 points after the third Ashes test in two days
UPDATE – Friday, July 7 – 11:49pm
Leeds: Two days after Friday’s third Ashes Test at Headingley, Travis Head and Mitch Marsh beat a revived England side to extend Australia’s fragile lead to 142 points.
Marnus Labuschagne and Steve Smith gave away their wickets to Moeen Ali after tea, wasting perfect trajectories to end Tackle a tired England bowling attack.
Hyde on 18 and Marsh on 17 negotiated the last 12.1 rounds to push Australia 116-4 in the second innings at the stumps.
Captain Ben Stokes scored 80 and led the level to bring England’s 237 points to 26 on aggregate with Australia’s leaders before tea time.
Australia captain Pat Cummins took his first five wickets in England with a score of 6-91.
Cummins is trying to help his side win the Ashes in England for the first time since 2001. England must win to survive.
Despite the flat deck, the speed at which the wickets were falling suggested the game could be over on Sunday with a day to go.
Australia kept England in the game on a sunny second day.
