Chennai: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin has written to President Droupadi Murmu claiming that the state Governor RN Ravi has proved himself biased and unfit to continue in constitutional office.

He cited a letter from the governor-general in which he removed arrested minister Sentil Balaji from the council of ministers, a move that was later put on hold. Stalin called this a “serious violation of the Constitution” in a letter to Murmu. In the 19-page letter, Stalin lashed out at the governor, saying that the framers of the constitution could never have imagined that the governor would abuse his powers in such a way.

A press release from the Tamil Nadu government on Sunday said the letter follows his previous letters to the president, which were forwarded to him by the state law minister. The chief minister also said that Ravi’s view of a religion as synonymous with Indian identity was an affront to the constitution. Stalin’s letter also pointed to unnecessarily delaying the ratification of bills passed by the state legislature, delaying the sanction of indicted defendants, and taking political and ideological positions against the positions of elected state governments as issues of concern.

He also accused the governor of interfering in the police investigation. In his scathing attack Stalin claimed that the Viceroy harbored a deep hatred for the Tamil language, the Tamil language and its culture. He also said that Ravi was known as an “underperforming” governor during his tenure in Nagaland.

In his letter, the chief minister also said he would leave it to the president to decide whether it was appropriate for Ravi to remain in constitutional office to protect the sentiments of India’s constitution-makers.
