Visakhapatnam: On Tuesday, the city police arrested several Anganwadi workers who have been agitating to demand a minimum wage of Rs 26,000 and regulate services.
Anganwadi workers, with the support of the CITU, organized a protest camp in front of the Gandhi statue opposite the Grand Vishakhapatnam Municipal Corporation headquarters. They chanted slogans and threatened to intensify their incitement if their demands were not met.
The police arrived on the scene and took away many workers in vans. During the process, police officers and Anganwadi workers were seen shoving each other.
Anganwadi workers staged statewide unrest for a second day in a row, with similar scenes seen in most districts, with police rallied in large numbers to contain the situation.
