New Delhi: Imagine being denied a bank account just because one is an acid attack survivor. This is exactly what happened to Pragya Prasun as she was unable to blink and the KYC machine could not scan her full biometric information.
“Opening a bank account is also my right,” Pragiya shared her story in a tweet, in which she also tagged superstar Shah Rukh Khan and the Mel Foundation. The Mel Foundation, the star’s charitable organization, works towards the recovery of survivors of the acid attack and funds corrective surgery.
Pragya posted: “Being an acid attack survivor shouldn’t stop me from living a life of dignity. It’s not fair that I’m denied a bank account just because I can’t blink an eye through the KYC process Yes. Asking @iamsrk @MeerFoundation to help me make this world inclusive of all acid attack survivors #iwontblink” She also urged Sandeep Bakhshi, CEO of ICICI Bank, to reconsider this policy and provide easy and quick alternatives for those who cannot blink Open a bank account.
“I also implore them to bring back the physical application process to accommodate people with disabilities, as the online-only option may not always be suitable for everyone,” she added.
