Ashwin, who made his Test debut in New Delhi in 2011, shrugged off Tagenarine’s father Shivnarine Chanderpaul in his longest-running debut Gu.
In that Test match 12 years ago, Ashwin trapped Chandler Paul’s shot ahead in the second inning.
Ashwin, who had 474 Test wickets ahead of this match, bowled the young Tagnalin in fine form, becoming just the fifth bowler in world cricket to dismiss father and son at the same time.
Interestingly, Chandler and Paul were three times on the list of father-son duos sacked by the same pitcher.
Australian fast bowler Mitchell Stark and South African off-spin bowler Simon Hamer were the other two bowlers who dismissed Shivnering and Tagnaling.
That may have something to do with the longevity of old Chandler Paul, who didn’t retire until 2015, and whose son made his Test debut last year.
The other two bowlers to achieve the feat were England all-rounder Ian Botham and Pakistan legend Wasim Akram.
Their feats were also eerily similar, both knocking out New Zealand father-and-son duo Lance Cairns and Chris Cairns.
Going into lunch on the first day of the opening Test, Ashwin had taken 699 international wickets across different formats, 476 of which came from Tests.
