Ricky Ponting insists Australia should stick with all-rounder Mitchell Marsh instead of Cameron Green

dubai: Ricky Ponting insists Australia should keep using all-rounder Mitchell Marsh instead of Cameron Green in their forthcoming fourth Ashes Test against England in Manchester.
Mitchell Marsh, who replaced the injured Green, seized the moment with both hands and saved Australia with a fine run 118 in the first innings. It was the Western Australian all-rounder’s first Test match since the 2019 Ashes final.
As well as his batting performance, the 31-year-old took two crucial wickets in nine deliveries in the third Test.
Australia and England will play the fourth test match of the Ashes series at Old Trafford on July 19.
Speaking in this edition of the ICC Review, Ponting said that if only one of the two all-rounders was available for the Manchester Test, he would choose Mitch Marsh.
“The big question Australia has to answer right now is do they want Mitchell Marsh and Cameron Green on the same team? Because if they do want that then I think Warner will go. But if they want to Keep Marsh on the court and Green on the sideline for another week or two, then Warner has a better chance of staying with the team,” Ponting told the ICC. With Australia leading 2-1 in the series, the fourth Test was crucial in turning things around.
The former Australia captain believes the importance of the upcoming Test will favor an in-form Marsh.
“If they’re happy to keep Warner on the side, then unfortunately Cam Green will fumble again because we saw what Mitchell Marsh did with the bat in the first inning, so far we’ve Didn’t see Green do that in this series,” said the former Australia captain.
“I know he’s a very talented young man, but with the national series approaching, what Mitch Marsh delivered in the last game and two top wickets, let’s not forget what he got Wickets. I think they might keep him in,” he added.
