New Delhi: Two-time world championships medalist Vinesh Fugat reportedly withdrew from the ranking series in Budapest late Friday night due to a fever and food poisoning.
She is due to compete in the 55kg class on Saturday. The decision was communicated to the organizers as well as the Sports Authority of India (SAI). Earlier this week, the National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA) sent Vinesh a notice for failing to comply with a whereabouts request.
On June 27, Doping Control Officers (DCO) visited the address at Sonipatpatap Colony, but Vinesh was not there and could not be reached by phone. The DCO spent more than 40 minutes trying to reach her and called her husband, Somvir Rathee, but he also did not respond, the report said.
NADA’s program officer, Ankush Gupta, has asked Vinesh to respond to her non-compliance with the ADR’s whereabouts request. Vinesh has 14 days to respond to this notice.
However, the report further stated that Vinesh had nothing to worry about as this was the first time in 12 months that she was missing.
Athletes in NADA’s registered testing pool are required to provide quarterly whereabouts information, which includes: home address, email address and phone number, overnight lodging address, race schedule and location, and a 60-minute time slot each day at which they can take the test and report Potential “missed tests” are responsible.
