Washington: US President Joe Biden announces intention to appoint Indian-American business leader Shamina Singh The President’s Export Council is the principal national advisory committee on international trade.
Singh is the founder and president of Mastercard’s Center for Inclusive Growth and serves as the company’s executive vice president of sustainability.
“It is a great honor for me to join the esteemed group of leaders who make up the President’s Export Council. From the earliest days of my career, I have dedicated myself to the work of creating lasting and inclusive prosperity for people and economies in the United States and around the world ,” Singh said in a statement last week.
“I look forward to bringing this perspective to the council, serving the administration, and having the opportunity to advance America’s economic interests around the world.”
Drawing on more than 20 years of global experience, she has developed a unique social impact model that leverages public and private sector assets.
Her leadership has contributed to Mastercard’s global leadership and reputation for doing good, the White House statement said.
In 2018, Mastercard created the Mastercard Impact Fund with an initial investment of $500 million.
Singh was named president to launch these philanthropic funds to promote inclusive growth and financial inclusion around the world.
Dedicated to public service, Singer has held senior positions in the White House and the U.S. House of Representatives.
She was executive director of the first Presidential Asian American and Pacific Islander Advisory Council, and in 2015 she was appointed by President Barack Obama and confirmed by the Senate to serve on the American Legion Board of Directors for six years.
She also serves on the boards of the Anti-Defamation League and the Ann Richards School for Young Women Leaders.
She has been named to the Financial Times’ 100 LGBT+ Executives and Fast Company’s Queer 50 list.
Singh was educated at Harvard, Yale, Stanford and Indian School of Business. She has a Bachelor of Science degree from Old Dominion University and a Master of Public Affairs degree from the Lyndon B. Johnson School of Public Affairs at The University of Texas at Austin.
The President’s Export Council is the principal national advisory committee on international trade.
The committee advises the President on government policies and programs that affect U.S. trade performance; promotes export expansion; and provides a forum for discussion and resolution of trade-related issues among business, industry, agriculture, labor, and government departments.
