Bollywood actor Vivek Oberoi allegedly scammed of Rs 1.55 crore by three who asked him to invest in a campaign

Mumbai: Bollywood actor Vivek Oberoi was allegedly defrauded of Rs 1.55 billion by a trio who asked him to invest in an events and film production company, promising lucrative returns but keeping the money for themselves, police said on Friday.
The incident came to light on Wednesday when the actor’s chartered accountant lodged a complaint against the three at the MIDC police station in eastern Andheri, an official said.
According to the indictment, three defendants, including a film producer, were the actor’s business partners and asked him to invest in an events and film production company, he said.
He said the actor had invested Rs 1.55 crore in the project but the accused kept the invested money for himself. The actor’s wife is also a partner in the firm, the official said.
He said a First Information Report (FIR) was registered against the three under Sections 34 (joint intent), 409 (breach of trust), 419 (passing off) and 420 (deception) of the Indian Penal Code.
An investigation into the case is ongoing, he added.
