Hyderabad: Former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Kiran Kumar Reddy, who was staunchly opposed to Telangana state formation at the meeting, shared the podium with the BJP leader in Telangana, arousing the curiosity of BJP officials in the succession planning of newly appointed BJP chief G Kishan Reddy.

Kiran Kumar Reddy said during the 2013 debate in the Andhra Pradesh assembly on Telangana formation, “I know very well which areas should be prioritized and which areas should not be prioritized. If you think we are allocating funds with fear. Just make a note, we will not give a penny. Do whatever you want.”

In fact, Kiran Kumar Reddy showed a map of India holding a long wooden pointer to show how power transmission and distribution, if separated, would push Telangana into darkness. He had taunted that Telangana would have to grope in the dark and that a truncated Andhra Pradesh would have excess power.

Ironically, he joined the same party that supported independent statehood and backed the party’s rise to power in Telangana.

Meanwhile, Karimnagar MP Bandi Sanjay, who was unceremoniously sacked as state party chairman, urged party leaders not to make trouble for him as they did with new state chairman Kishan Reddy.

Sanjay, unable to contain his anger at the leaders who led to his loss, said leaders should stop traveling to Delhi and file complaints against the country’s leadership. “You rushed to Delhi to complain about me and caused me a lot of trouble. I ask those leaders not to trouble Kishan Reddy. Let him work with peace of mind. Don’t betray the trust and confidence of hundreds of thousands of party members who are working hard to bring the BJP to power in Telangana,” he said.

While this was a succession plan for G Kishan Reddy, head of the BJP’s national division, at the BJP’s national office, it turned into a campaign to praise his predecessor, Bandi Sanjay, for his role in sparking enthusiasm among ordinary people in the party. This looks more like Bandi Sanjay’s farewell show than Kishan Reddy’s start.

Prakash Javadekar lavished praise on Sanjay and said the padayatra he did changed the political landscape of the state and brought the BJP to the forefront of national politics. “Prime Minister Modi mentioned Sanjay’s padayatra in various public meetings and even asked the presidents of other countries to adopt such padayatra.

Surprisingly, Sanjay’s most hated person, Huzurabad MLA Eatala Rajender, who was allegedly behind Sanjay’s ousted National Party chairmanship, was also full of praise. “Before Sanjay became the party chairman, the BJP’s activities were limited to Hyderabad and surrounding areas. He brought the party to every corner of the country. He created enthusiasm among ordinary people in the party,” he said.

Earlier, Kishan Reddy clarified that his party will not enter into any kind of alliance or understanding with the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BRS) in the upcoming state assembly elections.

Speaking to party staff after officially becoming head of the party state unit, Kishan Reddy said efforts were being made to create an impression that the BJP had some sort of understanding with the Socialist Party of India to create confusion among the people. “Our aim is to remove Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao from power. We have no intention of joining hands with BRS or any other party.”

He called on party members and cadres to prepare for the upcoming elections and strengthen grassroots party organizations. “The next 100 days are critical. We must persevere in our efforts, only then can we overthrow the BRS regime,” he said.
