Fontvieille: India’s Praveen Chithravel finished sixth in the men’s triple jump at the Monaco Diamond League Athletics 2023 in the French principality on Saturday.
In his Diamond League debut, the 22-year-old had his best jump in the fifth and final effort. Praveen Chithravel’s other jumps were 15.69m, 16.44m, 16.54m and 16.32m.
Praveen Chithravel failed to break the 17m mark for the first time in four outdoor races this year. The triple jumper from India is competing again after missing almost a month due to injury.
Chislavel set a national record 17.37m triple jump in Cuba in May to qualify for August’s World Athletics Championships in Budapest, Hungary.
Tokyo Olympic bronze medalist and two-time World Championships medalist Hugues Fabrice Zango of Burkina Faso won the triple jump with a time of 17.70m.
Thanks to the Monaco result, Chislavelle has three qualifying points for the 2023 Diamond League final. He is currently ranked 12th, ahead of compatriot Abdulla Aboobacker, who competes in the Fiorentina Diamond League.
For every game played in the Diamond League, players are awarded points instead of medals. After all stages, the top eight players in each competition will advance to the Diamond League Finals to compete for the championship medal.
Also known as Herculis EBS, the race in Monaco is the ninth stop of the 2023 Diamond League season. The series will feature a two-day finale in Eugene, USA, September 16-17.
