Adilabad: Communications between Telangana and Maharashtra have been disrupted since Saturday night on National Highway 44 in Dulala village of Jainat Mandar, where an interstate bridge across the Penganga River has been suspended due to heavy traffic due to rain in upstream areas.
As a precautionary measure, vehicles of all types have been banned from driving on the elevated bridge since 7pm on Saturday as the river swelled to the bridge.
Vehicles such as heavy vehicles, buses, cars, vans and containers are not allowed to enter Maharashtra through the bridge except for those with emergency medical conditions.
Hundreds of vehicles from Hyderabad and other parts of Telangana state were paralyzed on the state highway 5km from the Borraj toll. Vehicles from Maharashtra were also stuck on the other side of the bridge.
Jainath Inspector Naresh said traffic on the bridge has been suspended on the direction of senior National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) officials and authorities.
The NHAI team will inspect the bridge and conduct tests to assess the structural condition, officials said. A decision will be made after the team submits its report, one official said.
